Richard Vachula, an assistant professor in the Department of Geosciences at Auburn University, is the recipient of a $1.03 million award from the National Science Foundation Division of Earth Sciences for the project Collaborative Research: Resolving past fire-climate relationships to understand future fire potential in eastern United States.

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, four colleges and one school at Auburn University including the College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM), the College of Agriculture, the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment, and the College of Liberal Arts and the Graduate School, collaboratively unveiled a new mural in the university’s newest dining facility, The Edge.

Tailgaters mesmerized by Gameday Physics activities

Auburn's homecoming pre-game festivities were electrified by the second annual Gameday Physics event, held Saturday, September 14, from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Academic and Classroom Learning Complex (ACLC). More than 650 enthusiastic tailgaters flocked to the event, where interactive physics exhibits and demonstrations turned the wonders of physics into an exhilarating experience.

Palaeontologists make major dinosaur discovery in remote mountains of northern Canada

DMS's Cao receives funding from the Department of Energy

  Dr. Yanzhao Cao has received funding from the Department of Energy through the highly competitive AI for Science program for the project "DyGenAI: Dynamic Generative Artificial Intelligence for Prediction and Control of High-Dimensional Nonlinear Complex Systems." This collaborative project is led by Dr. Guannan Zhang from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, also an affiliate faculty member of DMS. Yanzhao's share of the award is $450,000.   This project transforms static generative AI models into dynamic ones that integrate physical principles with real-time data to address challenges like energy distribution and extreme event monitoring. This award highlights AI's growing role in applied mathematics to solve complex scientific problems. Auburn astrophysicist seeks to view cations never seen before in an astronomical context

Steven Bromley, a research scientist in Auburn University’s Department of Physics, is the primary investigator of a new National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Astronomical Sciences award for $604,321. The project, Gas-phase chemical and spectral modeling to unlock the diagnostic potential of cations in small body atmospheres, is a collaborative effort between three leading institutions, Auburn University, Mississippi State University, and the University of Mississippi.
