MSC provides collaborative assistance to PIs in the collection of preliminary data, preparation of proposals, and publication of manuscripts. Our contributions involve consultation, data analysis, and the preparation and review of manuscripts. We provide letters of support to PIs that describe the instrumentation and capabilities of the MSC.

Types of analysis we provide include:

Small Molecules

  • LC-MS and LC-MS/MS of small molecules with a quadrupole orbitrap (Orbitrap Exploris 120) and electrospray (ESI) or atmospheric chemical ionization (APCI)
  • Chromatography with Vanquish Binary UPLC, UV Detection, and various columns
    • Compound Discoverer software
    • Perfluorinated alkyl substance compatible
  • GC-MS with our Agilent 5975 MSD (single quadrupole)
    • MassLynx, MZmine, MetaboAnalyst, Enhanced ChemStation, AMDIS software

Large Molecules

  • Large molecules, especially proteins, can be analyzed with our Orbitrap Exploris 240 and EasySpray nanoflow U3000 liquid chromatography system
    • Whole protein analysis with Electrospray ionization (ESI) and calculation of the protein mass through deconvolution
    • Digestion with protease(s) and separation via LC and MS/MS to determine peptide sequence, usually leading to protein identity with MASCOT, Sequest, and Proteome Discoverer Software (also known as protein sequencing, shotgun proteomics, or bottoms-up)
