Investment Opportunities

Scholarships

As total enrollment in COSAM continues to grow, additional scholarship support is necessary to attract and retain high quality students.  Last fall, just 10% of our outstanding students received scholarship assistance.  An endowed scholarship, awarded in perpetuity, can be created for as little as $417 per month for five years, while an annual scholarship can be established with a minimum of $1,000 a year.

Fellowships

With 19 graduate degree offerings and nearly 400 graduate students, fellowships are essential to reward students for their outstanding achievements and recruit those with the highest potential.  Endowed fellowships may be established with a gift of $100,000, while annual fellowships begin at $1,200.

Unrestricted Support

Unrestricted gifts provide the flexibility to address unmet or unexpected needs and are crucial as state funding continues to decline.  Donors that make gifts of $1,000 or more ($500 or more if a graduate of the last 15 years) are enrolled in the Dean’s Society, which provides exclusive benefits for its members.

Society of Women in Sciences and Mathematics

Established in 2006, the Society of Women in Sciences and Mathematics (SWSM) strives to increase awareness of opportunities available for women in the fields of science and math.   Associates give of their time, talents and resources to provide support to ensure the success of students – both of today and of tomorrow.

Society of Health Professionals

The Society of Health Professionals (SHP) is devoted to enriching the quality of Pre-Health education through scholarships, faculty enrichment, and program enhancement.  Alumni and friends are invited to an annual reception and have opportunities to mentor tomorrow’s health professionals.

Auburn University Museum of Natural History

The Auburn University Museum of Natural History (AUMNH) is comprised of a spectacular collection of mammals, birds, paleontological invertebrates and vertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and flowering plants. The museum is located in the Biodiversity Learning Center (BLC), which is attached to M. White Smith Hall, on the campus of Auburn University. Support from COSAM alumni and friends will help to build and sustain the important outreach, research and education missions of the Auburn University Museum of Natural History.

Arboretum

A hidden jewel on the Auburn campus, the Donald E. Davis Arboretum is an asset to the entire community, and focuses on conservation, education and research on ecosystem preservation and diversity.  Current priorities include a new pavilion, pitcher plant bogs, and equipment to employ sustainable practices.

Outreach Activities

The Department of Outreach, an integral part of the college’s mission, has steadily grown since its inception in 2000.  Private donations make it possible for COSAM to provide exciting, hands-on laboratory activities, enthusiastic science mentors, and a supportive environment for the K-12 community.

Summer Bridge Program

The Summer Bridge Program is an intensive four-week residential program for talented and highly motivated students from traditionally underrepresented populations.  This program emphasizes academic preparedness, development of study and time management skills, establishment of academic and social support, and career awareness.  Private donations ensure these participants have a life changing experience – at no cost to them.
