Summer program offers bold research experiences for future STEM leaders

At the closing ceremony for the 2023 Collaborative Approaches among Scientists and Engineers (CASE) Research Experience Undergraduate (REU) Research Symposium, high school students and undergraduate students in the up to 10-week program had an opportunity to present their research posters and share how this program has made a difference to them personally in front of their families and faculty. Students came from across the country from California to Pennsylvania to take advantage of this program.

SCORE summer camp participants learn how to build VEX robots and get personalized advice

“I enjoy being part of these SCORE summer camps and seeing the kids develop an interest in robotics,” said Tre Knight, a teacher from Auburn Junior High School. “These students are here because they have a desire to learn outside of the classroom and that makes this even more exciting.”

Congratulations to Yimin Zhong, an assistant professor in DMS, for securing a new NSF grant as the sole PI for his project Adaptive Hybrid Method for Radiative Transfer and Related Applications. The grant, amounting to ~$210K, will support Yimin's work on this project for the next three years. Well done!

DMS's Zheng received 2023 Statistical and Analytical Methods Development Award from CCTS

Dr. Ginny Zheng received 2023 Statistical and Analytical Methods Development Award from CCTS for the project “Robust Functional Independent Component Analysis for Multivariate Functional Data.” The funds will support the collaborative research of Drs. Zheng and Billor as well as a graduate research assistant.

Emily Churchman, a graduate student in the Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM), is the first graduate student at Auburn University to receive a $180,000 predoctoral fellowship from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). Emily’s research focuses on microbiology and immunology in the context of fish health.
