Dr. C. Lloyd Nix '59

Dr. C. Lloyd Nix, pre-dentistry '59, was the quarterback of Auburn's 1957 national championship football team. After graduation, he attended the University of Alabama School of Dentistry and then moved to Amarillo, Texas where Nix served in the U.S. Air Force.

Nix moved back to Alabama and started a dental practice in Decatur where he worked for 35 years until he retired in 1999.

His involvement in the civic, religious and cultural life of Decatur and the state of Alabama includes serving as former president of the Morgan County Dental Association, former chairman of the Council on Ministries of Central United Methodist Church, and board member for the Alabama Institute Foundation for the Deaf and Blind.

Lloyd is a former president of the Auburn Football Letterman's Club, the Auburn Alumni Association and the Morgan County Auburn Club.  He served as chairman of the Auburn Research Advisory Board and member of the Auburn University Foundation.  His tireless commitment and love for Auburn is evidenced also through his service on the Auburn University National Campaign Committee and was the co-chair for the North Alabama regional campaign.  In 2008, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Auburn University Alumni Association.

Nix is married to Sandra (Sandy) Ross Nix, elementary education '60, and they have two daughters, Denise Slupe and Natalie Adams, both Auburn University graduates who live in Birmingham, and six granddaughters.
