Alabama Science and Engineering Fair
The Alabama Science and Engineering Fair (ASEF) was held at Auburn University on April 13, 2024 and hosted middle and high school fair winners from our 4 regional fairs held across the state. Students competed for more than 150 awards totaling over $13,000.
ASEF is an affiliate fair of the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (Regeneron ISEF), the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. ISEF annually provides a forum for millions of students from over 50 countries, regions and territories to showcase independent research.
Three high school students in the Senior Division from ASEF (Will Bao, Max Lizee, and Rhyana Mahatsente) advanced to the Regeneron ISEF from May 11-17, 2024 in Los Angeles, CA and competed against the top 1500 students in the world for nearly $9 million in prizes and scholarships.
Additionally, the top 10% of Junior Division winners from grades 6-8 advanced to compete in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge.
We look forward to hosting ASEF at Auburn University next year in April 2025!

Congratulations to our 2024 Regeneron ISEF Winners from Team Alabama:
- Will Bao won a Grand Award in the Category of Materials Science, Third Place ($1000)
- John Parsons won the Soumyanath Memorial Award, First Place ($3000)
- Ashu Anand won the Air Force Research Laboratory Award, First Place on behalf of the United States Air Force ($750)
Congratulations to Rhea Rastogi from Loveless Academic Magnet Program High School! She was one of 40 U.S. high school seniors that was named as a finalist in the Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS). STS is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math research competition for high school seniors, and Rhea received a prize of $25,000!
We are happy to announce a partnership between ASEF and DataClassroom. The DataClassroom web-app is a tool for graphing, statistics, and data analysis in the grade 6-12+ science and math classroom. Science fair teachers around the country have found it especially useful as it directly supports students in choosing appropriate graphs and statistical tests for their science fair projects. This partnership is offering up to two free DataClassroom licenses at each school in the state of Alabama. Current DataClassroom customers are not eligible. Congratulations to Nikita Prabhakar! She was part of the Top 30 in the nation for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovator Challenge. As a finalist, she received a $500 cash award and competed for over $100,000 in prizes during a trip to Washington, DC from Oct 28-Nov 2, 2023. For more information, please click here.
Congratulations to Amelia Gollapalli, Ayoung Jeong, Nikita Prabhakar, and Minlu Wang-He. These students competed at ASEF 2023 and were selected as part of the 2023 Top 300 Competitors in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovator Challenge, the nation’s premier STEM competition for middle school students.
